BACK PAIN RELIEF
Acupuncture is successful in the treatment of many types of back pain including disc protrusions, compression fractures, and arthritis. This is confirmed by numerous studies including a report by the National Institutes of Health (NIH Consensus Statement, volume 15, number 5, 1997; p. 19, 1997). Perhaps the most common back pain patient is the L5/S1 IVF encroachment type (typically lower back disc disorders). In this case, the patient typically has lower back pain and/or numbness often radiating down the legs. This may lead to restless sleep and pain while sitting or standing. I use electroacupuncture to enhance the micro-circulation of blood and fluid to the vertebral region to address this syndrome and many forms of neck, mid, and low back pain. This often results in a dramatic decrease in pain intensity levels and an increase in strength and range of motion.
Many patients are able get off their pain medications as a result of proper acupuncture care. Other patients seek to avoid the need for surgery. While surgical intervention is sometimes necessary, almost all of my patients are able to avoid the need for surgery with the help of acupuncture therapy. Post-surgical back pain patients also derive great benefit from acupuncture care. These patients have had surgical procedures to correct the disorder but continue to suffer from pain. They usually take very strong pain medications to alleviate their suffering. Even in this difficult type of case, most of my patients enjoy a significant improvement in their condition. I use a specialized form of electroacupuncture to help these patients recover from chronic pain and regain their lifestyles. Many patients can then enjoy boating, golfing, biking, hiking, tennis, and a good night’s sleep. If you are suffering from back pain, acupuncture therapy may be a very important step in your recovery. I use every tool available in Traditional Chinese Medicine including micro-acupuncture, distal acupuncture, and local electroacupuncture to ensure optimum results.
